Anam mara psychotherapy

What's in a Name?
So, what does Anam Mara actually mean?
Anam Mara comes from Gaelic, with Anam meaning Soul and Mara meaning Sea.
So how does this link to psychotherapy?
It evokes the idea that our inner world can sometimes feel like an ocean - deep, powerful, and occasionally stormy.
In therapy we work with the understanding that thoughts and emotions are like waves on that sea. The goal isn't to stop the waves, but to learn how to notice them, make space for them, and still steer our lives in the direction of what matters most to us.
When it feels like you are drowning, therapy can help you learn to swim.

Understanding Anam Mara {Soul:Sea}
My Approach
We all know know that life is hard, it throws us wave after wave of challenging situations in all areas of life.
We also know that asking for help is hard, that therapy is serious business and we sometimes don't know if its right for us.
I aim to create a space where you feel safe to ask these questions, find answers, skills, insights and new directions that work for you in life so that you can go out there and do what matters most.
I strongly believe that its not about stopping the tide, but finding ways to surf whatever life throws at you and recognise that waiting for calm days can leave you just as stuck as fighting the storm. While we might not know where that destination is, be sure I'll go on the journey with you.
Whether you are taking a first step, need a top up or are sure about what you want, please reach out for a free no obligation consult to make sure what's on offer is right for you!
Therapies
For those that may be a little more certain they think therapy is for them.
My approach is guided by 2 main disciplines, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
ACT helps you find ways of accepting the difficult feelings and thoughts that might stand in the way of your life and find meaningful ways of living the best life possible for your unique circumstances. Find out More Here
CBT helps gently challenge negatives patterns of thinking and behaviours helping you understand and develop skills to live the life you want and overcome any challenges of poor mental health that may stand in your way.
